d&b audiotechnik T-Series performs universal role for London's renowned arts centre.
Orbital Sound has recently supplied a multi-purpose sound system for London's Battersea Arts Centre, based on the T-Series loudspeakers from d&b audiotechnik. Housed in an architecturally renowned 19th century listed building, formerly Battersea Town Hall, the venue has a vast complement of performance spaces offering audience capacities ranging from 10 to 500 and is regarded as one of the UK's most influential theatres.
The new system is designed for semi-permanent installation in the venue's main room, as well as allowing flexible deployment in other spaces, and comprises a central hang of seven d&b audiotechnik T-10 enclosures, plus two ground-stacked d&b E15X-SUBs, per side. Key selection criteria included configuration flexibility and scalability, as well as exceptional sound quality.

Clear-Com and HME's one-stop shop ups the comms game with HelixNet 1.1
Often the unsung hero of the pro-audio world, communications equipment tends not to excite as much as an innovative loudspeaker design or a well thought out digital console. But it's an equally important part of the bigger picture, and many projects can succeed or fail on the reliability and capability of their communication systems. And the systems are every bit as sophisticated as the higher-profile kit, as exemplified by Clear-Com's 1.1 release of the revolutionary HelixNet networked partyline system earlier this month, at the NAB Show in Las Vegas and at Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt.
This new HelixNet release includes a system-linking facility, which enables users to quickly and efficiently extend digital partyline communications to multiple sites across a network, and eliminates the need for long cables runs. Under the expanded feature-set of version 1.1, up to five HMS-4X Main Stations can be linked to up to one hundred HBP-2X Beltpacks, with each user now able to receive up to twenty partyline audio channels and five programme feeds, together with beltpack powering - all via a single shielded twisted-pair cable. TRAINING NEWS
Sound Fundamentals for Theatre Easter week - another resounding success!

Orbital's annual "Sound Fundamentals for Theatre" training course took place between 2nd and 4th April, representing the 12th consecutive year that the Easter training week has been staged.

Across the four activity-packed days, students were tutored in a wide cross-section of essential skills for theatre sound, with Orbital's Richard Carter and Bill Addison at the helm. Orbital estimates that it has now helped prepare more than 300 theatre sound and technical theatre students for careers in live entertainment - with students drawn from across the UK's leading drama schools, as well as many freelancers and the corporate sector.

Orbital Sound Inc. opened its doors during the turbulent aftermath of Hurricane Sandy late last year - bringing the well-established Orbital brand into play in the US market for the first time. The Spin asked president Jim Shearing for an update on what's been happening in the last few months, as the new company establishes itself.

"We can't quite believe how much has happened in the past few months! We hit the ground running in December with two big musical tours - Dreamgirls and Hair for Big League Productions - while we were also working hard to get the shop infrastructure and all our operational systems in place. It's been a big investment - in real estate at our New Jersey premises, where we are now fully equipped to handle a high volume of projects, as well as in getting the team balance exactly right. I can honestly say that it has been exciting, exhilarating and mildly exhausting!"

PRODUCT FOCUS
TheatrePro extends range with complete suite of theatre-specific microphones

Theatre is a demanding environment, particularly for radio microphone capsules - which is why the TheatrePro range stands out from the competition. It is the result of more than four years' dedicated R&D, creating an exceptionally specified line-up of products that are ideally suited for vocal, instrumental and industrial applications.

The TheatrePro E-60MP low profile earset microphone features a unique hangar earpiece design, combined with exceptional water-resistance due to the unique IP65 moisture and dust rating. With its theatre-tailored 60dB attenuation, the E-60MP is specifically designed to cater for the full range that dynamic live performance voices can throw at it, without overloading the electronics in the transmitter pack and whilst maintaining a class-leading noise floor and signal to noise ratio. Uniquely, an adjustable boom length allows fine tailoring of the capsule position to match appearance and proximity requirements equally. The -60dB model is constructed with very high quality European-designed capsules - delivering a full frequency response with a rich bottom end and clearly defined tops.

A slightly smaller model fitted with a -45db capsule, the E-45SP, complements the range and is ideal for use with children and weaker voices.

There is also a matching range of lavalier microphones - including the TheatrePro L-45 - that uses the same 2.5mm diameter European-designed capsule. This has been proven to provide clear full-frequency audio enclosure deisgn, protecting the capsule and giving it excellent water resistancy. This is available in both pink and black, featuring a -45dB sensitivity, and is supplied in a neat box that contains the microphone, tie clip and wind sock.
