6th Orbital and National Theatre Sound Course for Drama School Students

Monday 10th April to Thursday 13th April 2006

Orbital Sound and the sound department of the National Theatre are pleased to announce that the sixth Orbital and National Theatre Sound Course will be taking place in April 2006.

Recognizing that drama schools provide excellent training in theatre practice, the aim of the course is to provide the opportunity for students to gain an extra level of technical skill and artistic understanding.

A particular emphasis will be on production engineering skills but we will also cover specialist programming skills needed for digital desks and digital playback systems such as SFX, as well as more general topics such as acoustics, sound reinforcement, and sound design for plays and musicals. We will also be explaining communication systems such as wired and radio comms, as well as showing the health and safety benefits of good communication. Members of staff from both of the hosting organizations will lead the sessions together with specialist lecturers from the audio industry.

Students can be in any year of study on a Stage Management or Technical Theatre course at a UK drama school. The course will take place in London with sessions at Orbital and at the National Theatre.
