Two Day Course in Theatre Sound Announced

Tuesday 17th & Wednesday 18th April 2007

Orbital Sound are pleased to announce a two-day course in Theatre Sound that will be taking place at their Brixton base in London on Tuesday 17th April and Wednesday 18th April.

Although not aimed at the complete beginner, this course is intended for those who have a little knowledge but would like to boost their skills and confidence in this rapidly advancing industry. It would be particularly suitable for venue technicians and electricians who frequently find themselves responsible for sound in their theatre. Sound specialists would also benefit from the course.

Topics covered will include basic sound theory and acoustics, sound system set-up, microphones including radio mics, computerised sound playback (eg. CSC, SFX), setting-up EQ and effects units, loudspeaker placement including foldback. There will be plenty of hands-on practical work to ensure that you get the most out of the course.

We will also be explaining communication systems such as wired and radio comms, cue lights, show relay and CCTV as well as showing the health and safety benefits of good communication.

Orbital have over ten years of experience of dealing with sound in theatres in the West End, the UK and all over the world. The course leader, Simon Whitehorn, is an experienced sound designer who has designed over 250 shows. He is also an experienced lecturer having provided classes for Central School of Speech & Drama, RADA, University of Leeds, Rose Bruford, Danish National Theatre School and the ABTT. Simon and other Orbital staff will be on hand to discuss any particular problems you may face in your venue or on your show, be they caused by difficult acoustics, uncompromising directors and performers, or unsympathetic managements, we can suggest strategies that may help, and ensure that you have the knowledge to know what you are talking about.

The cost of the course is £150 (plus VAT) per person, per day which must be paid in full in advance.
