Orbital Training Available for August 2007

Four Courses Offered in a Week of Training

Sound Fundamentals
Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th August 2007
(BECTU Sponsored)

This two day course (only bookable via BECTU) deals with sound systems for theatre and the live entertainment industries. After an introduction to sound theory, there will be hands-on sessions dealing with the component parts of a sound system and how to interconnect them. The second day will feature more advanced topics such as the use of radio microphones, foldback and in-ear monitor systems. Each topic will initially be dealt with from a basic level and no prior knowledge is assumed.

Please contact Kate Elliott at BECTU, kelliott@bectu.org.uk 020 7346 0908 (direct line) for details or to book a place. Cost for the 2 days for BECTU members is £40 and for non-members is £200.

Computer Based Playback and Control Systems for Theatre and Live Events
Wednesday 15th August 2007
(£125 + VAT per Person)

A one day course that will look at the various options for playback of sound effects and music using a computer. After a small amount of digital and MIDI theory, students will have hands-on sessions using SFX and CSC software. This course would be an ideal accompaniment to Friday's one-day course on digital sound desks.

d&b Electroacoustics Training - Sound System Design and Set-up with Line Array Theory
Thursday 16th August 2007
(No Charge)

The focus of the day is on achieving intelligibility - if you're passionate about sound, then you want to get good quality, intelligible sound to every seat in the house. Most sound engineers have a good knowledge of the electronic signal path, but are less sure of the acoustic signal path between the loudspeaker and the listener's ears. It is this part of the signal chain that we'll be primarily looking at, along with a journey into line array theory. A truly fascinating lecture with many practical demonstrations.

Yamaha Digital Sound Desks
Friday 17th August 2007
(£125 + VAT per Person)

The main focus of the day will be the Yamaha M7CL digital sound desk. There will be practical hands-on sessions and discussion of desks actually out working on a large number of West End and touring musicals. This course would be an ideal accompaniment to Wednesday's one-day course in Automated Sound Playback.
