Orbital Expands And Introduces Event Communications Division

Featuring as an expansion of audio experts Orbital Sound, its new Events Communications division has been launched to provide integrated communications management, offering solutions for a sound infrastructure on all large scale productions.

Building on its experience handling all on-site comms for a host of world class events, in particular The Jubilee in 2002, Orbital has most recently handled the entire comms solution for Liverpool European City of Culture celebrations. The dedicated division is looking forward to fulfilling a growing demand for seamless integration in such demanding environments with the latest ground breaking technology including matrix key panels and TETRA.

From concerts and festivals to sporting and cultural events, awards evenings and gala dinners, the new Events Communications team based at Orbitals Brixton based HQ will work with all levels of a production team. Integrating together departments like stage management, production, emergency services, security and broadcasters, Events Communications will improve public safety as well as ensuring ultra-slick operations and crystal clear communication, even across multiple linked sites.

Headed up by Orbitals Tim Sherratt, Russell Goodwin and Eric Simpson who together combine over 20 years experience in the events and broadcast industries will offer full 24/7 service and support as well as realistic and practical advice.

Orbital is also teaming up with new manufacturing partners to provide the hardware infrastructure. The principle in this is to introduce the concept of matrix key-panels and TETRA into the live event industry.
Key-panels are the programmable control units, which allow the user to communicate with walkie-talkies, mobile phones, landlines, or any groups or sub-groups thereof, site-wide, or across multiple sites. Site-wide signal distribution is via an optical network, allowing comms to be laid along existing cable runs without fear of interference.

Tim Sherratt, Head Of Event Communications, explains:

"The potential of TETRA will impact on a number of levels. As its digital it uses less radio bandwidth , which means its cheaper to run because you dont have to buy large licenses typical of other analogue alternatives. TETRA is a digital trunk walkie-talkie system, allowing the user to dial up any other user from a small key pad. And as its fully duplex more than one person can talk at any time. In fact it can be configured easily to communicate re SMS, create unlimited talk and listen groups. TETRA can also work across the country, say linking the festival site directly to the productions staff at head office - say in London"
