Orbital Sound Shows Control at ABTT 2009

Orbital showcases latest CSC show control software

Orbital previewed the latest version of the CSC Show Control and Audio Playback Software from CTR Electronics at the ABTT Theatre Show 2009. CSC Version 3 takes real-time show control for theatrical and live sound applications dynamically forward, merging timeline-based graphical editing facilities with cue-list methodology and external triggering.

Exclusively distributed by Orbital Sound in the UK, CSC Version 3 represents one of the most sophisticated and intuitive packages currently available for live control of sound effects and cues. With the new Timeline view, designers can mix and layer complex sequences of WAV files - shifting tracks in time with each other, plus manipulating levels and output destinations, using the live mixer and routing modules. The most frequently used routing groups can then be stored for future use. Looping and vamping can easily be applied with the new wave display and enhanced engine. MIDI control is via standard MIDI messages, MIDI Show Control, MIDI Machine Control and System Exclusive data. MIDI sequences can also be recorded, to enable the capture of digital mixing desk fader movements, or for live recording of sound effects sequences using samplers and keyboards. Other facilities include event triggering via remote-control button boxes, MIDI commands and timecode, TCP/IP messages or based on the system time clock. Enabling speed and flexibility for designers are central to CSC's design, while providing operators with the maximum control during a live show via the software's latest and highly intuitive user interface.

Orbital showcased a number of other innovative products from its broad range, including:
• digital wireless microphone systems from Zaxcom, including the TRX900 stereo-capable transmitter and the new QRX100 4-channel receiver, which can be operated with any combination of mono or stereo TRX900 series microphone transmitters.
• HME's recently-launched DX121 one-to-one digital wireless intercom, which can be plugged into a standard intercom station or belt-pack headset jack, or connected to a matrix intercom system, to enable wireless intercom links of up to 300 metres.
• loudspeaker systems from d&b audiotechnik, including the new T-Series - designed for maximum configuration flexibility and versatility both as a compact line array or a standalone point source system.
• Integrated back-stage paging and communications solutions from RTS Telex.

Orbital also majored on its rental services at ABTT - including a new specialist service for amateur and school productions. This is designed to provide a one-stop cost-effective service, assisting with the simplest to more complex equipment requirements. This complements Orbital's acclaimed Rental Desk, which currently supports theatres and touring productions throughout the UK and into continental Europe. Orbital's team were also on hand to discuss details of its diverse training programmes, designed for students as well as anyone wanting to develop their skills in sound system operation. Information regarding Orbital's recently-launched battery recycling scheme for theatres and entertainment venues was also available.
