The course will be led by Orbital's training manager, Theo Holloway, who explained the rationale behind the autumn training programme:
"The popularity of our annual courses underlines the appetite among students to learn a set of skills that can help them with a practical technical career in theatre sound.
At Orbital Sound, we have a vested interest in seeing new generations of well-qualified theatre sound technicians coming up through the ranks, and are committed to encouraging the best working practices. Over the past eight years, we have invested considerable time and energy in developing training courses that deliver the right combination of theory and practical skills, catering for a broad variety of applications, skill levels and interests.
This latest course is all about helping students to gain confidence in using the technology for real. The emphasis is on hands-on training that will familiarise them with the latest systems and techniques, and we are receiving considerable support from d&b audiotechnik, Yamaha and HME with this course."
The programme includes:
• an in-depth focus on the use, application and integration of radio and wired communication systems, running across both days of the course, with students able to practice using selected products from the HME range.
• The theory and application of digital mixing consoles, using products from Yamaha Professional Audio, on day 1 of the course.
• The theory and practicality of achieving superior sound in the real world, illustrated with the T Series loudspeaker from d&b audiotechnik, running on day 2.
Students interested in attending the free of charge training are invited to apply to training@orbitalsound.co.uk. With the number of places on each day limited to 24 students, admission will be on a first come, first served basis.
