Orbital Sound focuses on Audio and Comms Innovation at PLASA 2009

Orbital showcases latest T-Series loudspeakers from d&b audiotechnik, plus digital wireless systems from HME and Zaxcom

Orbital will be exhibiting an eye-catching cross-section of audio innovations on Stand No. 1-K27 at PLASA09 (Earls Court, London, 13 – 16 September). As the exclusive UK distributor and prime reseller of a number of major brands, Orbital Sound will be showcasing loudspeaker systems from d&b audiotechnik, digital wireless intercom systems from HME, and digital wireless microphone systems from Zaxcom.

d&b audiotechnik – Ti-Series
Making their PLASA debut are the installation-specific Ti-Series loudspeaker systems from d&b audiotechnik, featuring the same multi-purpose flexibility as the company's T-Series – introduced earlier this year – with mounting hardware to suit fixed-install applications. The Ti-Series comprises the Ti10L, for deployment in multiples as part of line-array configurations, plus the Ti10P, which is designed as a point-source stand-alone loudspeaker and supplied without the line-array rigging hardware. Both models feature 2 x 6.5" drivers, plus a 1.4" exit HF compression driver, with a unique combination of a rotatable HF waveguide horn and acoustic lens providing a choice of dispersion patterns. The arrangement produces vertical line source directivity with a 90° horizontal pattern, maintained down to approximately 600 Hz, with the acoustic lens in front of the horn widening horizontal dispersion to 105°. By rotating the horn by 90°, it produces an accurate point-source dispersion that transforms a vertically-oriented T10 into a stand-alone full range loudspeaker, with 90° horizontal and 35° vertical directivity pattern.

The Ti-Series also includes d&b audiotechnik's Ti-SUB, which shares the same width and integrated rigging hardware as the Ti10L, enabling deployment either flown at the top of a Ti10L array or as a separate column. It can also be ground-stacked for installation with either of the Ti10 loudspeaker versions. The Ti-SUB increases low-frequency headroom, extending the bandwidth of a Ti10 column down to 47 Hz, with its bass-reflex design utilising a high-excursion 15" driver with a neodymium magnet assembly, and employing d&b SenseDrive technology when driven by the D12 amplifier.

HME – digital wireless intercom systems
HME's recently-launched DX121 one-to-one digital wireless intercom will be on demonstration at PLASA09, together with other models from the company's DX-Series, covering applications from theatre and conference venues, to live-event communications. The DX-121 enables wireless intercom links of up to 300 metres to be quickly established, with its flexible interfacing allow connection to a standard intercom station or belt-pack headset jack, or to a matrix intercom system.

Zaxcom – digital wireless microphone systems
The digital wireless systems from Zaxcom include the TRX900 stereo-capable microphone transmitter and the new QRX100 4-channel receiver, which can be operated with any combination of mono or stereo TRX900 series microphone transmitters. From multi-channel theatre deployments, to location production and audio-visual applications, Zaxcom digital wireless microphone systems maximise signal integrity, while offering operational flexibility, including powering options.
