Orbital Sound Turns up the Volume in the Club Sector

London's 229 and Concorde 2 in Brighton invest in major new sound systems from Orbital

Orbital Sound reports strong sales to the UK club scene, including new systems to London's up and coming 229 Club in Great Portland Street, and Brighton's premier club, Concorde 2. 229 has invested in a substantial new sound system, designed around d&b audioteknik's Q1 Line Array complemented by Digidesign's recently launched SC48 mixing console, for its 620-capacity main room. In Brighton, Concorde 2 has extended its top-end sound system with the addition of the compact Digidesign VENUE Mix Rack System, comprising the VENUE Profile console and all-in-one VENUE Mix Rack processing and I/O component.

Since opening in 2007, 229 has established itself as one of the UK's leading small to medium-sized venues, attracting acts such as Primal Scream, Keane, Gnarls Barkley and Razorlight. 229 came to Orbital Sound in early 2009, looking for a high quality and reliable sound system that delivered a great sound. Venue manager Stuart Ellerker expands on 229's objectives:
"We have always prided ourselves on being at the forefront of changing technology, aiming to provide a unique listening environment to our customers. The venue is now 3 years old, and we felt it was time to invest in a new, high-end system, with d&b audioteknik being a strong contender from the outset. With Orbital's help and expertise, we have achieved an excellent result – the new system sounds great, and it was a very smooth, neat installation."

Orbital's Tom Byrne worked closely with Stuart Ellerker, and head of sound, Alessandro Bonifacio, to design the optimum sound system. The d&b Q1 Line Array was rapidly identified as providing the best combination of performance, flexibility and durability for the main PA system. This is complemented by the high output d&b J-Series subs, together with the compact d&b Max12s, plus d&b C7sub and C4top drum fills for the stage monitor system. System control is via the d&b R1 Remote Control software. With regard to its choice of live sound console, the club was looking for high quality yet cost-effective package, capable of recording the live band nights via Pro Tools, with the club purchasing two VENUE SC48s with the integrated Pro Tools LE®.

Orbital's other recent activity in the club sector involves the sale of a compact Digidesign VENUE Mix Rack System to Concorde 2 in Brighton, one of the UK's most innovative clubs. Concorde 2 has consistently attracted some of the world's greatest bands in its 10-year club history, including Bloc Party, White Stripes, Jarvis Cocker, the Kaiser Chiefs and Scissor Sisters, and has a reputation for outstanding sound quality.
