Da-Cappo Micro Microphones Win ABTT Sound Product of the Year Award for Orbital

Orbital's Nomination for Da-Cappo Wins Sound Product of the Year Award at ABTT 2010 for the microphones' sweat resistance and innovative head-worn mounting system

The Da-Cappo Micro Microphones range – distributed exclusively by Orbital in the UK – has won the Sound Product of the Year Award at the ABTT Theatre Show 2010 (16 – 17 June, Royal Horticultural Halls, London). The award was granted on two counts – in recognition of the tiny 2.5mm diameter Da-Cappo capsule's sweat resistance, with its potential to save the significant on-going wastage of moisture-damaged microphones, together with the comfort and adjustability of the products' innovative ear-mounting system.

Orbital's MD Chris Headlam commented:
"This Award is an excellent and well-deserved accolade for the Da-Cappo brand – won for the performer-comfort and security of its ear-loop, as well as its technical, moisture-resistant performance. It recognises the products' inherent financial benefits for theatres and production companies as, in this budget-challenged climate, no one can afford to throw away microphone capsules unnecessarily. Sweat damage to head-worn capsules is a constant problem in musical theatre, and represents a large overhead. Da-Cappo's design helps minimise this overhead, by offering a longer potential working life in the typically hot on-stage environment. A further built-in cost advantage is Da-Cappo's use of a plug-in, and therefore easily replaceable, cable that connects to the rear of the ear-mounting loop. This saves having to discard the whole product just because of a cable fault. As reflected by this Award, the Da-Cappo products offer an important set of benefits for the entertainment industry."

At the ABTT Theatre Show 2010, we showcased the complete Da-Cappo Micro Microphones range, including the DA-12 single-ear microphone and the DA-04 lapel microphone, plus the DA-15 single-ear microphone with an integral in-ear monitor piece. Manufactured in Australia, all feature Da-Cappo's tiny European-designed microphone capsule, which measures a discreet 2.5mm in diameter. Based on extensive research in precision-hearing instrumentation, the capsule combines market-leading engineering standards and audio performance with exceptional EMI protection, and unparalleled resilience against premature damage from the ingress of sweat and moisture. The microphones and their connectors are compatible with transmitters from all the major radio microphone manufacturers.
