10th Annual Sound fundamentals For Theatre Training Course

2011 Dates for UK Drama School Technical Student Sound Training are 26th to 28th April 2011

Theatre sound is advancing at a rapid rate brought on by technological advances and the growing expectations of directors, producers and audiences. We are concerned that a skills shortage may develop and that people coming into the theatre sound industry may not possess the required level of competency.

We recognise that drama schools provide excellent training in theatre practice and the aim of the course is to provide the opportunity for students to gain an extra level of technical skill and artistic understanding.

A particular emphasis will be on production engineering skills but we will also cover specialist programming skills needed for using playback and show control software, samplers, ProTools recording and editing, and digital desks, as well as more general topics such as basic acoustics, sound reinforcement, and sound design for plays and musicals.

Members of staff will lead the sessions together with specialist lecturers from the audio industry.

Students can be in any year of study on a Stage Management or Technical Theatre course at a UK drama school. They should show an interest in theatre sound and perhaps be contemplating this as a career.
