Absolutely on Q

Triggered by the need to address projects in larger venues, Absolute AVS chose a d&b audiotechnik Q-Series system as the best fit

Absolute Audio Visual Solutions, based near Cambridge, have added a d&b audiotechnik Q-Series system to their rental inventory. We supplied Absolute with Q1 and Q7 enclosures, as well as Q-SUBS, amplifiers and rigging components, to satisfy their requirement for a compact, long-throw system that could be deployed for an increasing number of projects in larger venues.

Absolute have also taken delivery of an HME DX200 digital wireless intercom system from Orbital. This was loaned on trial to the Cambridge Corn Exchange, resulting in the venue's purchase of the DX200 system for front of house duties, complete with six belt-packs.

Established in 2006, Absolute Audio Visual Solutions initially focused on the exhibition contractor market and supporting projects for the University of Cambridge. The company has grown steadily, acquiring its first d&b audiotechnik loudspeakers – a C-Series system – in 2009.

Absolute's Alex Parmee, whose eclectic career includes several years as a PA Technician, and stage manager/backline tech positions with Motorhead, commented:
"The d&b C-series system was one of the best investments we made during our first few years, and we used it on a variety of events, including a series of road shows for the Learning Skills Council (LSC). We're now having to cater for projects in larger venues, typically from 300 to 800 people, and needed a new system that would give us the necessary scope and flexibility. The d&b Q-Series was an obvious choice, and the one most favoured by our trade partners. It was also the most compact and best-sounding option, but not necessarily the cheapest! Its versatility is excellent, whether we're deploying it for VT playback, speech reinforcement, or as a band PA at a corporate function. Due to d&b's very good reputation, their systems normally meet everyone's contractual riders and they are also plug-and-play easy.

"Since we took delivery during the last quarter of 2011, we've used the Q-Series for fashion shows, several sold-out comedy shows at the Cambridge Corn Exchange, and large conferences, with the latter often in wide rooms, where we've used the Q7s in the centre, and with Q1s on the outside. We've also hired the loudspeakers to The Junction in Cambridge, a large multi-purpose venue, to augment the venue's own d&b system on club nights. And for the smaller band functions, we're finding that the combination of Q7s and Q-SUBS cover all the bases. Once again, our investment in d&b seems to be paying off."
