Training feature: Mixing Musicals 2012 course is a hit!

Course fully subscribed

Orbital's exciting new course for aspiring theatre sound operators was fully sold out, aimed at helping aspiring theatre sound operators take their show mixing skills to the next level.

Tutored by Marcus Wadland (UK tours of Blood Brothers, Never Forget, Whistle Down The Wind among others) and Daniel Bailey (West End productions including High School Musical, Rent, and Fame), the two-day course was staged at Orbital's purpose-built training centre in Brixton in late October, focusing on the practical skills and theory behind the best-practice FOH mixing requirements of musicals.

Students were taken through the entire process - from the rehearsal room to setting up a desk in its base state. They were introduced to the theory behind it all, as well as given a demonstration of why line-by-line mixing is so important, and what happens when you don't do it.

A trip to the West End was also part of the course, for a behind-the scenes look at a show and the chance to speak with an operator. Then it was back to the training room to put the techniques into practice - using Yamaha CL5, Digico SD7 and Digico SD8 consoles.
