Rolling out the red carpet for GQ Men of the Year with d&b audiotechnik

Orbital does the business for the Awards

The Royal Opera House was the venue for this year's GQ Men of the Year Awards, in association with HUGO BOSS, staged by Timebased Events with sound from Orbital.

This was first time the Orbital event communications team have used the Yamaha CL5 on a major awards event, which was coupled with the d&b audiotechnik V-Series as the main front of house system.

Orbital's Charlie Garrick explains:
"We've been providing the sound for Timebased Events at these awards for several years now, and it proved to be a very smooth-running event. The Yamaha CL5 console performed excellently, and we brought in the d&b audiotechnik V-series as the main front of house system, with very successful results. The system used eight V12 systems in the main array, with four V-SUBS, plus four E12s as side fills, and twelve T10s as delays and mezzanine fills. We also put in four E0 speakers as front fills. Overall, the system was well specified and straightforward to install – our biggest challenge was achieving a good sound for the band, who were performing on a rather restricted stage area. It worked fine in practice, and the band sound was nicely integrated."
