When visiting the Orbital HQ many of our clients are intrigued as to the previous use of our warehouse space.

From the gigantic sliding doors to the unique apex, the site has a very colourful history and more links to the theatre industry than meets the eye.

The warehouse we see today was built in 1928 for Blue Belle Motors Ltd behind the existing 57 Acre Lane house that serves as our offices.

Built as a secondary site to the then main premises at 43-45 Acre Lane this space was large enough to accommodate 120 commercial vehicles used for scenic haulage for Theatrical Transport Service, a subsidiary of Blue Belle Motors who's services can be seen advertised in The Stage newspaper as early as 1923.

For a further look into the history of the area, motor company and their services have a look at the heavily detailed piece by Richard Smith 'Blue Belle of South London.

In 1928 a new garage was built for Blue Belle Motors behind the existing house at 57 Acre Lane, a short distance from Blue Belle's main premises. The building was large enough to accommodate 120 commercial vehicles and today is preserved as Orbital’s main London warehouse.
