We first started working with the Pleasance team in 1997 and shortly afterwards Gilded Balloon, kickstarting an annual cycle that sees a few short manic weeks in August preceded by months of careful preparation. We have supported the teams through the event's highs and lows, but one thing always shines through - The Fringe never stops evolving.
Orbital's involvement with The Fringe Festival in Edinburgh dates back almost 25 years. It is this aspect that makes it particularly rewarding for us as we partner Pleasance and Gilded Balloon to introduce new ideas and innovations each year and help them develop their businesses. We are delighted to be back this year, and to a welcome return to the mad reality that is The Fringe!
Closer to home for us is Oklahoma, running at the Young Vic in London with sound design by Drew Levy supported by production sound engineer Kyle Macpherson. It's a great project, involving transferring a massive Broadway show into a tiny space without any compromises to the overall quality. We are having a great time working with the team, and look forward to the next musical production there.
Punchdrunk's production of The Burnt City is like nothing else around! Staged across two former enormous admiralty buildings in Woolwich, the show takes you on an a journey of sensory exploration lasting up to three hours. As the world's leading immersive theatre company, Punchdrunk has a unique formula, bringing the ancient worlds of Greece and Troy to life in a spectacularly different way after 8 years' absence. For Orbital, it's very much business as usual, providing Punchdrunk with our usual set of professional skills and having a great time working with head of sound Viktor Palfi and sound designer Stephen Dobbie.
